Coaching is a structured form of development where an experienced individual, known as a coach, supports a client or learner in attaining a specific standard or goal by giving specialized coaching and advice. The coach may be called a mentor, coach trainer, or simply coach. This kind of development occurs over time, usually with the accompaniment of a supportive partner. Coaches generally have a strong desire to understand what motivates the people they train, the areas in need of improvement in their current situations and how to deal with people in authority who can help direct the progression of the training.

This allows each of the individual to receive feedback on their performance from a self-determined and knowledgeable advisory board. In addition, professional coaches often serve as authors or contributors to an organization’s newsletters and publications, thereby creating exposure to the business and providing credibility for the coach/company.
